The name สาขลา Sakhla
derives from สาวกล้า sao gla (brave
girl, young woman). It is an ancient
village dating back to the Sukhothai
or Ayuttaya eras. During the
reign of King Rama I the village
produced 9 armies, all able-bodied
men had to enroll with the army,
only women, children and the aged
remained in the village.
Sakhla provided a
lot of provisions for the Thai army
and was attacked by the Burmese, the
women managed to fend off the
Burmese and claim victory. The place
where victory occurred is คลองชัย
Klong Chai (victory canal). Today
ตำบลสาขลา Tambon Sakhla's name has
changed to ตำบลนาเกลือ Tambon Naa
Gleua.
